According to Yuen Sin (2017), the compact Smart StethoScope is a device that helps to monitor the heart. It is invented by three students from Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP).  This small device is wearable and allows users with cardiovascular diseases to monitor their hearts for abnormal sounds at home without any medical understanding. This could save the lives of patients whose heart conditions might not have been detected during medical appointments. It can collect data on heart sounds and the heart electrical activity. The data is then uploaded into a machine learning model on a cloud server that will process it and identify abnormal heart sounds. The source also says that users are only required to wear it for around five minutes per day to record their heart conditions and the saved data will be secured. This device is affordable as it only takes thirty dollars to produce it. Doctors are able to monitor their patients’ health through this device more easily.

Patients with this device are able to track their heart conditions by themselves. All the users can use this device without the company of the doctors. It provides greater convenience for the doctors as the data of the patients can be collected more efficiently. Also, the heart problems that are not detected during the medical check-up can be found under this device.

The price of the Smart StethoScops is around thirty dollars which is significantly cheaper than the similar products in the market. For example, one HD Steth costs more than four hundred dollars. The low cost of the Smart StethoScope definitely enhances the affordability of the device. Wider range of the patients can be reach and more patients can buy this product to monitor their heart. In addition, usage of the Smart StethoScope is very simple compared to other devices. The users do not require any medical training or background. They only need to follow simple instructions and procedures to use this device. There is no fixed location to use this device. Users can choose to use it at any place. Furthermore, the time taken for the usage of the Smart StethoScope is only around five minutes every day which is very time-saving compared to other devices. 

In conclusion, the Smart StethoScope has high potential to compete in the market. With cheaper price, the patients will be more willing to afford this device. The unique features and functions make this device more attractive to the users and help the users to monitor their heart more effectively.

Personal Reflection

Through this journey in communication, I think that I have learnt more about effective communication. During the lesson on every Wednesday, I was able to have a chance to interact with my classmates. For the group project, I was able to share some of my personal opinions with my group members. Also, I have learnt more about the proper usage of language, such as the use of comma to separate independent clauses in a sentence. For the oral presentation, I found out that the way to reduce my fear of public speaking is to practice speaking in front of the audience as often as possible. Even though there was only a short period of time for the preparation of presentation, my group had practiced a lot in order to give a good presentation.  Being an audience for the showcase, I really enjoyed myself.
